History
It all started in 1945 when…
the Christian Endeavor Board of Kansas Yearly Meeting realized they were constantly searching for conference grounds since they kept outgrowing one rental site after another. Discouraged after several years of not finding anything suitable in their price range, the board president and treasurer, after visiting an already established camp outside of Arkansas City, stumbled upon what the locals called the “140 foot hill” and immediately felt as if “this was it.” The land used to be used as a lookout by warring Native American tribes and later as an observation point during the run for the Cherokee Strip in 1893. The board purchased several acres atop this hill and renamed it Camp Quaker Haven. Camp building construction began soon after and the first camp was held July 17-21, 1950 with a group of 186 boys and girls. And the camp has been busy ever since!
